Blue Diamond Fillups - Not For Resale

Who are Blue Diamond Fillups?, apart from possibly the punniest band name of all time? (Although the Silly Hillbilly Rockabillies from Sicily probably have them beat.)
To answer your question (with some help from their website);
Blue Diamond Fillups formed in 2008 as a foot stomping, roots rocking, Americana based Rockabilly band. Blue Diamond's front man and vocalist, Michigan born Flash Ricketts, has an eclectic background, having performed in heavy rock and country bands. He also had his own early Elvis show band, called "Little Elvis and the Memphis Mafia", which performed in Nashville's prestigious Grand Ole Opry.
Their new CD, entiteld Not For Resale, is my first exposure to these relative newcomers and, I have to say, a very pleasurable one it was too.
I have to admit that when I first heard it, I wasn't sure if I liked it. Their treatment of the Drifters' This Magic Moment is certainly different and it's not every day you hear Rockabilly songs about Chardonnay and Merlot. Sailor Jerry Rum and Pabst Blue Ribbon yes, but wine varietals, definitely not.
During, I think the 4th song in, I found myself with a huge, stupid grin on my face and realized that I was actually loving this thing! No, it's not traditional Rockabilly, nor is it your average, formulaic fair, which is what I think makes it great. It's fresh, it's quirky and overall, it's brilliant.
Since getting the CD, I've been following their calendar with interest and heard great things about their live performances. I look forward to catching BDF (We're on acronym terms already) on stage in the near future.
