The Rockabilly Legends

The King Makers - Last Night in Nashville

Isn’t it amazing that when you’re stood waiting for a Canadian Rockabilly CD, three come along at once?

The third one to make it’s way South to my mail box is Last Night In Nashville, the latest offering from Ottawa  rockers, The Kingmakers.

The Kingmakers were formed in 2006 by 4 guys from Canada’s capital, Ottawa, by vocalist Clark Lawlor, guitarist John Cormier, bassist Stephen Donnelly and drummer Ian Cook.

Not content to record their first CD in a local studio, they made the pilgrimage straight to the Mecca of Rockabilly, Sun Studios.

To make this, their third CD, the guys schlepped themselves and their instruments to the hallowed turf of Nashville to record with some Rock ‘n’ Roll Royalty in the shape of Elvis’ backing singers, the Jordanaires and Sun session drummer J.M. Van Eaton, at the studio of music icon Cowboy Jack Clement.

The result is an amazingly diverse musical journey through Rock ‘n’ Roll history.  One minute you’re in the Sun studios listening to early Rockabilly then you’re rocking out to Louisiana Zydeco, Swing and Jump Jive. It’s a head-spinning roller-coaster ride through America’s South, then a short jaunt back home to Canada.

As well as the CD tracks, you can enjoy a VIP pass to see how it all came together by watching the Documentary video, which gives a personal account of what went into making this CD, with some great anecdotes and behind-the-scenes footage.
